In the fall, Academy students offered a look back in time with a production of “Wonderful Town,” a 1953 comedic musical.
Set in the summer of 1935, “Wonderful Town” tells the story of sisters Ruth and Eileen – one an aspiring writer and the other a dancer, who move from rural Ohio to seek success in Greenwich Village, New York. Together, the sisters take on the Big Apple, going after their dreams and finding love.
The production featured the contributions of over 60 Punahou students and showcased the incredible talents of student actors, dancers, technical crewmembers and musicians.
Audiences were delighted by the lesser-known production. “I wanted to pick something that audiences probably hadn’t seen before,” said Punahou Theater Director Melinda Moore. “I actually love it when I tell people the show title and they say, ‘I don’t know that one.’ My response is always, ‘Come see it, and I promise you’ll have a wonderful time.’”
