The Class of 2019 took part in Baccalaureate Sunday at Central Union Church, singing together as a Class and receiving a warm sendoff from their deans, Erin Maretzki ’89 and Deane Salter ’98.
“What we’re most proud of you for is that you’ve done more than just care; you’ve taken action,” Salter told the seniors. “You’ve done cancer research and environmental research. You’ve performed music for the elderly and taught art to children. You’ve created educational programs for the deaf and blind; performing arts classes for the physically challenged and collected supplies to aid the homeless. You’ve also successfully banned single-use plastic water bottles on the Punahou campus. And you’ve done so much more.”
After the ceremony, the seniors gathered with their families and friends outside the church. The Class graduates Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Stan Sheriff Center at the University of Hawai‘i.
