Students in Katie Snyder’s fourth grade art class collaborated to create an inspiring and beautiful sunrise mural in the Kosasa Community art room. The project was inspired by the Chapel theme for the school year, “Awakening,” and the children’s book, “The Great Realization,” by Tomos Roberts about emerging stronger from the pandemic.
The mural is made up of individual sun beams that students created from strips of paper. They decorated the pieces with paint, words and illustrations of what they are optimistic about. “The highlight of the project was seeing students realize that art can carry a message and a meaning as they contributed their ideas to the larger mural,” Snyder said.
Other art projects for the year include surface tension printmaking, Native American coil pottery, embossing endemic Hawaiian species on metal, geometry in art and more.
