Seniors Receive Diplomas at Special Campus Celebration

A day before their virtual Commencement, members of the mighty Class of 2020 received their diplomas from President Mike Latham ’86, during a well-choreographed, socially distanced event at Sullivan Administration Building.

Although seniors weren’t able to receive their diplomas in a traditional way, they nevertheless savored the opportunity to take part in Friday’s campus celebration, wearing formal Commencement attire and with their parents present. Throughout the day, the graduates arrived in decorated cars at scheduled times, and lined up at Sullivan for their turn to be handed their diploma and “elbow bumped” by Latham. Although Punahou faculty couldn’t attend the event, due to restrictions on the number of people present, they joined in via Webex and cheered for graduates on a large screen in the courtyard.

It may have been a very different kind of graduation celebration, but there were lots of smiles and warm moments, as this year’s Senior Class and their families displayed their grace and good spirits.
