Beep, beep! It’s Takeout Tuesday, when we feature an alumni-owned restaurant in a video review. Let’s support these and other locally owned small businesses by ordering takeout.

Haili’s Hawaiian Food is located at 760 Palani Ave. in Kapahulu. Family run since 1958, and now operated by Lorraine Haili ’70 Alo, Haili’s is best known for its authentic Hawaiian dishes. Laulau, kalua pig, beef and tripe stew, poke and pastele plate are popular items on the menu, as well a la carte favorites like squid lu’au, pipikaula and lomio’io. Limited parking is available behind the restaurant (enter off Winam). Street parking is also available. Takeout is available by calling ahead at 808.735.8019. Call again when you arrive at the restaurant and staff will bring your food to your car.
Here’s what we ordered:
- The Big Kahuna Plate, which includes: pork or chicken laulau, kalua pig, chicken long rice, lomilomi salmon, poke, sweet potato, haupia, and choice of rice or poi.
- Beef Stew Bowl
- Shoyu Ahi Poke Bowl
For the Punahou community, this plate will be available for preorder as the “Pua Melia Plate” on June 5 and 6 for those wishing to add Hawaiian food to the Buff ‘n Blue Together: Live from Punahou virtual event. Each Pua Melia Plate will will come with a fresh, yellow plumeria lei. Preorder by June 1 by calling Haili’s or ordering online.
