This year’s Baccalaureate took place outside the Chapel on Sunday, May 30, with members of the Class of 2021 together for the annual tradition. Watch the virtual presentation of this joyous event.
Kayla Chun ’21 and Mehana Leafchild ’21 inspired their classmates with their speeches, while quartet Mira Hu ’21, Erin Nishi ’21, Sewon Park ’21 and Stephanie Yoshida ’21 performed “Ku‘u Pua I Paoakakalani” by Queen Lili‘uokalani.
Academy faculty Taylor Hamilton ’09 also spoke at the celebration, encouraging students to be kind to others and in everything they do. “In my almost 30 years on this planet, what I’ve come to realize in my many reflections is that there are many of us here who are dealing with challenges and hardships that many of us may not know about, and it doesn’t help to be unkind,” Taylor told the Class. “This past summer, my Capstone students and I studied the following quote by Ian Maclaren. ‘Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.'”
