Academy Students Build Electric Train

Academy engineering students fabricated and assembled a miniature train and 250-foot track in the D. Kenneth Richardson ’48 Learning Lab. The battery-powered and solar-charged replica of a steel locomotive can be set up at events to inspire an interest in engineering. “The train has been designed and built to be compatible with other tracks all over the world,” said Ed Kinnear, Academy Design Technology and Engineering faculty member, who is guiding students on the project.
