Punahou Alumni Association’s popular bingo event took on a new twist this year with its proximity to Halloween. The family-friendly evening was held in a decorated Dole Hall, and guests were invited to come in costume.
“Celebrity” number callers also were in the Halloween spirit. Junior School Principal Todd Chow-Hoy was incognito in a blue-fringed wig and sunglasses as a member of the K-Pop band BTS. Academy Principal Gustavo Carrera flaunted an Italian accent as “Luigi” of the Super Mario video game. The principals also helped judge a costume content.
Dole Hall was transformed with large pumpkin inflatables and a skeleton perched on stage by Bingo event chair David Haverly ’89 and his wife, Gina, who have also helped to dress up the Punahou campus with holiday inflatables and decorations. Micah Yoshino ’11, of Hawaii Candy Factory, donated his mouth-watering NOMS li hing and lemon-peel coated candy as prizes.
Mahalo to the PAA Bingo Committee: co-chair Erica Mau-Schank ’07, co-chair David Haverly ’89, Morgan Kaya ’00, Sandy Ng ’90 Niebling and Heather Ueunten ’93 Salonga. Many thanks to the members Ka’ahele: Andy Bunn ’86, Toby San Luis ’88, Blair Sataraka ’92 and Scott Schmidtke ’01 for providing Hawaiian entertainment and being spirited bingo callers.
