Despite best efforts and high hopes, Alumni Week 2020 will not happen this calendar year. Alumni Relations Director Doug Rigg ’84 announced that Reunion events rescheduled to October have now been canceled. Alumni in Classes ending in 0 and 5 received an email this week informing them about the cancellation.
Early in the pandemic, the Alumni Relations team had postponed the traditional June celebration to October 2020, but restrictions on large, public gatherings remain and will likely extend through the fall. Instead, the hope is to hold a combined event in June 2021 for Classes ending in 0, 1, 5 and 6.
“While we were hopeful to be able to gather in-person this fall, we know that we all have a role to play in keeping our community safe and healthy, and we appreciate your understanding,” Rigg said.
Punahou hosted its first-ever virtual lū’au on June 6 featuring entertainment from Henry Kapono ’67 Pomaika’i Keawe ’99 Lyman and Tropic Breeze, as well as hula performances from the 25th and 50th Reunion Classes. The event, Buff ‘n Blue Together: Live from Punahou,” is available for on-demand viewing.
