A youth leader and plaintiff from the Hawai‘i climate change lawsuit, “Navahine F v Hawaii Department of Transportation,” addressed eighth graders in Rachel Lau’s social studies class on Nov. 13 and 14. Rylee, a 16-year-old Honolulu resident, discussed her involvement in the case, highlighting the power of youth in legal actions against government inaction on climate issues.
This visit aligned with the class’s focus on the theme of power, especially how young people can exercise it. Additionally, a lunch meeting was arranged for deeper discussions. The speaker was coordinated via Debbie Millikan, Punahou’s sustainability director.
