Flowers, flowing gowns and colorful costumes set the stage for the 2019 Academy Holokū Pageant. More than 360 students performed at the annual showcase of Hawaiian culture and music, along with alumni, faculty and staff. The two April 20 shows drew hundreds of spectators to Hemmeter Fieldhouse.
This year’s Holokū Pageant theme was Kukui ʻĀ Mau – Ever Enduring Light, and the featured mele paid homage to the legacy of influential people and places at Punahou and beyond, including retiring President Jim Scott ’70.
“As the kukui burns forever bright, so shall our commitment to put forth our own light in this world,” Holokū co-directors Leilehua Phillips ’95 Utu and Lauli‘a Phillips ’98 Ah Wong wrote in their directors’ notes, inspiring everyone to leave their own lasting legacy.
