This May, Punahou Dance School presented the Pathways to Tomorrow Showcase, an impressive spectacle that was inspired by Punahou’s chapel theme for the 2024 – 2025 academic year – E Ho‘omoea-: Our Home to Dream and Discover. This theme speaks to the School’s overall mission to foment a love for learning, creativity and exploration from kindergarten through life.
Punahou’s annual “Showcase” performance, held May 22, 23 and 24 in Dillingham Hall, brought joyful audiences on an exquisite journey. “They got to witness the aspirations and creativity of our students as they explore the many pathways their futures may hold,” said Dance School Director Annri Opitz-Kostick. “From florists and flight attendants to astrophysicists and superheroes, each piece celebrated the unique spark of curiosity – and an idea of who our dancers might become, how they may express themselves and the worlds they may shape.”
Another byproduct of the Showcase performance: exponential personal growth. “Dance not only gives our students the tools to move expressively, it helps them grow in confidence, discipline and self-discovery,” Opitz-Kostick say. “It’s through this process that they begin to understand their power to dream, create and lead with purpose.”
The stunning production featured a broad array of students from K – 12, performing diverse genres such as ballet, jazz and contemporary.
