In Design Technology and Engineering classes, sixth graders build a controllable cart with motors and sensors, then program the carts to detect, avoid and go around an obstacle. The design challenge is part of a lesson in robotics and automation using Lego robotics kits.

Seventh graders expand on the sixth grade lessons by embarking on a more complex multi-day design challenge using the Lego robotics kits. “The challenges give students creative license to modify their builds to fit their solution,” says Design Technology and Engineering faculty Tedd Landgraf.
