Virtual Event Showcases Global Education

All are welcome to attend the two-day Celebration of Global Journeys virtual event to learn about global opportunities at Punahou offered through Wo International Center. The event takes place on Nov. 17 and 18, from 6 – 7:35 p.m. both days, and can be accessed at this Webex Room at that time.

Paula Arias, director of strategic programs at Wo International Center

Paula Arias, the director of strategic programs at Wo International Center, encourages everyone who is curious about Punahou’s past and future international trips to attend. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet virtually with students and program leaders to hear a recap of middle school and Academy trips and experiences from 2019 – 2020 and learn about upcoming opportunities in 2021 and 2022, when traveling is safe to resume.

With travel plans on pause due to the coronavirus pandemic, Wo International Center has continued to pair students with meaningful global experiences through online forums, partnerships with international schools and pen pal programs. Students have connected with others in Senegal, Peru, China, Japan, Vietnam, Switzerland, France and more.

These many global online opportunities still allow students to gain an understanding of the multiple perspectives that make up our diverse world, the main aim of a global education, said Arias. “Our goal is to help students become global citizens who promote positive change in their communities and the world around them,” she said.
