Punahou School’s Sustainability Fair, held on April 30 at the PE Pavilion, brought together students, educators and community partners for a morning dedicated to environmental stewardship and innovation. Attendees explored student-designed games and interactive exhibits that highlighted creative approaches to sustainability.
Student groups and clubs played a central role, with the Sustainability Fellowship Program offering ʻulu poke tastings to promote local agriculture, GSD Engineering showcasing solar-powered projects and lanterns, and the Glassblowing Studio highlighting art created with sustainable materials. The Davis Democracy Initiative engaged visitors in conversations about climate legislation, while the Sustainability Club and Fair Leadership Team led interactive, eco-friendly art activities. Additional student participation included projects and displays from GSD Asian groups and Japanese 4 students, further enriching the fair’s educational offerings.
Among the many projects, one student-led booth collected plastic bottle caps and repurposed them into note cards and birthday cards for nursing home residents, demonstrating a thoughtful connection between sustainability and service.
The fair also welcomed a wide range of community organizations, including the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation, Mālama Maunalua, and the Office of Climate Change, Sustainability & Resiliency, alongside the Aloha Tree Alliance, American Bird Conservancy, Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi and WAI Clean Water. These groups shared their work in areas such as forestry management, bird conservation, ocean and reef health, and sustainable water solutions, providing valuable opportunities for connection and learning.
Mahalo to all students, faculty and community partners whose time, creativity and dedication made this year’s Sustainability Fair a meaningful and inspiring event.
