We have liftoff! Fifth graders in Mrs. Hoftiezer’s class headed to the Challenger Center Hawai‘i in hopes of completing their “Rendezvous with Comet Halley” mission. During this simulated launch into space, students experience what it is like to be a part of the Mission Control and Space Station Teams. They work together to gather data, carry out experiments and solve emergencies in the hopes of a successful probe launch. In order to study Comet Halley, students must first locate the comet, build the probe and determine where to safely launch it, while also monitoring the safety of the spacecraft and the health of the crew. The entire fifth grade class participates in this exciting mission.
