From hands-on engineering projects to data-driven discoveries in AP Statistics and environmental problem-solving in AP Environmental Science, Academy students are exploring STEM – science, technology, engineering, and math – through real-world applications and innovative lessons.

In AP Environmental Science, one of Punahou’s most popular Academy science courses, students repurpose recycled soda bottles to create “eco-columns,” exploring how Earth’s natural systems cycle nutrients and sustain life within a closed environment.

In the Academy English class Script to Screen, students blend storytelling with technology, using cameras, sound equipment and editing software to create their own films – a creative take on STEM in action.

In AP Statistics, students analyzed primary sources of data to calculate a confidence interval – a statistical method used to estimate a range of likely values – to independently assess evidence of climate change.
