It was an event-filled week in early June for classes ending in 3 or 8 when alumni, friends and guests from near and far reconnected for the School’s annual Reunion celebration.
Following a week of service projects across the Island, evenings of celebration, and memorials to remember classmates who have passed, over 2,000 attendees gathered at the Saturday night Alumni Lū‘au on Rice Field. It was an evening of memorable moments as Joanie Rothwell ’68 Lui presented mele oli on behalf of her 50th Reunion Class to President Jim Scott ’70, who returned the welcome with a Punahou mele oli. The youthful voices of the newest alumni from the Class of 2018 led the crowd in singing the Hawaiian Doxology. Dinner entertainment was provided by this year’s Holokū musicians, and later, violinist Arlene Koh ’93 and singer Alx Kawakami ’04 showed off their talents on stage alongside the legendary Henry Kapono Ka‘aihue ’67.
