First graders enjoyed class with Eliza Leineweber ’92 Lathrop, Punahou’s garden resource teacher. In celebration of Earth Day, they learned that ‘āina is part of the word sust(aina)bility. Students brainstormed ways in which they could help take care of the planet – such as reminding their parents to bring shopping bags to the store and planting something to grow in a garden. They wrote their pledges on the back of their butterflies and then took them out for a test flight.
