The Punahou Music Department presented its annual Concerto Showcase on Friday, Feb. 27, in Dillingham Hall, with a live broadcast streamed on YouTube.
The evening spotlighted four accomplished senior soloists – Rylan Terayama (violin), Swan Kim (viola), Max Shinno (violin) and Albert Ko (viola) – who performed with the Punahou Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Jonas Carlson and Mr. Craig Young.
The program featured an ambitious and expressive repertoire: Henryk Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 (Terayama), Cecil Forsyth’s Viola Concerto in G minor (Kim), Jean Sibelius’ Violin Concerto (Shinno) and Béla Bartók’s Concerto for Viola and Orchestra (Ko). Each performance reflected years of dedication and musical growth.
Serving as a capstone experience for seniors in the orchestra program, the Concerto Showcase celebrated the students’ artistry, leadership and commitment to their craft. Special video vignettes shared during the concert offered insight into each musician’s journey and connection to their chosen works.
The evening was a powerful testament to the strength of Punahou’s orchestra program and the exceptional talent of the Class of 2026.
