“One of the highlights of the trip was our day at the Karma Leksheyling orphanage in Paro, where we were welcomed with great kindness and respect by the children and nuns,” says Sarah Burke Man, Social Studies faculty for the sixth grade. “They put on a beautiful dance performance. It was pure joy to play Uno, Jenga, soccer, make origami and read books with these kids. I think of that day often and am overwhelmed with a wonderful transformative memory.”
Man was one of 12 Punahou faculty and staff who went on a life-altering trip to Bhutan this spring to observe the local educational system, learn about the country’s Gross National Happiness curriculum and experience mindfulness. Man captured the magic of that day with a photograph of seventh grade faculty Julie Dinius playing cards with the children.
