Going Places

Some 400 fourth and fifth graders had a grand time riding bicycles around Punahou campus this spring. The fun Physical Education activity was organized in conjunction with Hawaiian Bicycling League, a local nonprofit seeking to improve the health and wellness of the state by increasing the number of bikers in our community. “Not every child has the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike, so watching the pure happiness and joy on a child’s face when they learn how to ride a bike is magical,” said Mekia Ostrem ’98 Earle, Girls PE teacher for fourth – fifth grade. “The kids keep asking me if they get to ride bikes around campus again next year.”
