The Punahou JV/Varsity Kayaking team recently enjoyed a special visit and demonstration from two decorated Olympians, Josef Dostal and Anezka Paloudová, who both competed in Paris for the Czech Republic. Dostal, a five-time Olympic medalist, took gold in the K-1 1,000m sprint kayak event, while Paloudová has earned 19 medals in international competitions.
This visit was inspired by Dostal’s long-time friendship with Punahou kayaking alumnus Aukai Manson ’17, who is currently training for the 2028 Olympics in flatwater sprint kayaking. Manson, like other Punahou graduates, has competed at the international level.
“The Punahou kayakers were thrilled to see Olympians using the paddles and boats from their own practices and races,” said Head Coach Sarah Field ’01 McKay. “We look forward to alumni and future alumni continuing to make their mark in flatwater sprint and surfski kayaking competitions.”
Special thanks to the Athletic Department, Manson family, other alumni and the Punahou O-Men for supporting the team.
