Mika Hiroi ’24 was awarded the Scholastic Gold medal in New York City in June.

Aya Okimoto ’27 came in first place at the Global Soroban (Mental Calculation) Olympics this summer, which included students from various countries, held at the Japanese Cultural Center. For her efforts and representing Hawai‘i, she received a Certificate of Merit from the Council of the City and County of Honolulu, invited by Councilman Calvin Say. She also recently came in second place at the Aloha International Piano Festival Competition and will donate her prize money to the Punahou Music School. Previously, she won a Steinway competition and also donated her prize money to the Punahou Music school.

Joey Misailidis ’23 was named a 2023 Coca-Cola Scholar, the sole recipient from the State of Hawai‘i. In addition to attending a ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia, in May, Misailidis was presented with an award at Punahou from Coca-Cola representative Brooke Sherick-Odom. Misailidis was accompanied by her mom, President Latham, Principal Carrera, Deans Salter and Maretzki and Kumu Shelby Ho ’01, whom Misailidis chose as her inspiring teacher to receive a Coca-Cola Educator of Distinction Award.
