Takeout Tuesdays: Kaimuki Superette

Beep, beep! It’s Takeout Tuesday, when we feature alumni-owned restaurants and food establishments in a video review. Let’s support these and other locally owned small businesses by ordering takeout.

Located in the heart of Kaimuki at 3458 Waialae Ave., Kaimuki Superette’s vintage-looking storefront houses a new twist on the good ole days. Chef and owner Ed Kenney ’86 is known for his lively gathering places, where his mantra, “local first, organic whenever possible, with aloha always,” plays a key role.

Kenney has been rocking the local chef scene for years, and now has three other restaurants serving up delicious Island fare: Town, Mud Hen Water and Mahina & Sun’s.

Here’s what we ordered:

  • Superette Salad
  • Hapa Fried Rice
  • Local I’a Club Sandwich
  • Soft Scrambled Sammie
  • He’e Roll
  • Grilled Banana Bread

Kaimuki Superette is open Tuesday – Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit their website or call 808.734.7800.
