In a recent virtual event, Kumu Keʻalohi Reppun ’99 shared about the work of Kuaihelani Learning Center for ʻIke Hawaiʻi and our team of kumu who make Hawaiian knowledge accessible and an integral part of the educational journey at Punahou School. The ‘Ike Hawai‘i program supports direct instruction of Hawaiian language and culture to K – 12 students, assists K – 12 faculty with integrating ʻike Hawaiʻi into existing curriculum, and facilitates Punahou’s education of ʻike Hawaiʻi to our greater school community. The program’s content-based approach aims to foster within students an appreciation for Hawaiian language, culture, history and perspective in order to promote a kuleana-based approach to purpose and practice.
