The Class of 2035 gathered for the annual Third Grade Lūʻau, a cherished tradition that celebrates the culmination of months of learning about Hawaiian culture, history and values.
Throughout the year, students explored Hawaiian practices through hands-on experiences, including work in the loʻi, food preparation and lessons centered on stewardship, community and mālama. The lūʻau provided an opportunity for classmates to come together, share a meal and reflect on the knowledge and experiences they gained along the way.
The celebration continued with traditional Hawaiian pāʻani games, where students demonstrated teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship while participating in activities such as ʻōʻō ihe, hōlua sled racing, hukihuki and ʻulu maika.
The Third Grade Lūʻau and pāʻani games are meaningful opportunities for students to connect classroom learning with lived experiences, strengthening their understanding of Hawaiian culture and their place within the Punahou community.
