Alumni Bingo Returns to Dole Hall

PAA Family Bingo Night is one of the most popular alumni events of the year, especially when President Mike Latham ’86 is the bingo caller.

In-person bingo night returned to Dole Hall this year, thanks to the Punahou Alumni Association Hawai‘i (PAAHI) chapter. The popular, family-friendly event drew about 200 alumni and ‘ohana of all ages.

PAAHI changed the format slightly this year to accommodate pandemic rules. Instead of the usual Dole Hall beef stew or spaghetti dinner, attendees were invited to picnic near the Lily Pond and cafeteria as alumni music ensemble Ka‘ahele entertained.

Competition during the bingo games remained tough, but friendly, as players vied to fill various shapes on the bingo square.

Hawaii News Now host, Kainoa Carlson ’07, emceed the evening, even providing updates of the Varsity boys volleyball game in Thurston Gym. Bingo callers included President Mike Latham ’86, Chaplain Lauren Medeiros, PAA President Stephanie Chun ’97 Nomura, Food Service Director Marcia Barrett ’74 Wright and Director of Technology Services Todd Funasaki ’89.

The gathering was one of PAA’s first in-person events on campus since the pandemic began.
