In 2023, PUEO expanded to include rising fifth graders from across O‘ahu – and added rising fourth graders in 2024. PUEO programming continually evolves, adding innovative courses such as: eighth grade performing arts; an interdisciplinary sixth and seventh grade music/creative writing course with ukulele instruction and 11th grade college writing.
It also offers ancillary non-academic support to provide holistic care for the scholars, including more robust college counseling opportunities and career fairs. A new breakfast program was introduced in 2023.
This year, the Tsuha Foundation selected PUEO for a Breaking the Cycle Award for its exemplary work in helping to create a more equitable world through its hands-on contributions to alleviate the cycle of poverty.
