Punahou Students Represent Hawaiʻi at ACDA Western Region Honor Choirs

Thirty students from Punahou School’s choral program represented both the school and Hawaiʻi at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Western Region Conference in San Jose, California.

The ACDA Western Region – which includes Hawaiʻi, California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah – hosts the conference every two years, bringing together outstanding young singers from across the region. This year, Punahou students were selected to perform in three of the conference’s four Honor Choirs.

Nineteen Punahou students performed in the Grades 4 – 8 Youth Unchanged Honor Choir, ten students sang in the Grades 7 – 9 SATB Honor Choir (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass), and one student performed in the Grades 10 – 12 SATB Honor Choir.

Students auditioned in the fall through recorded submissions and were notified of their acceptance in late November. After receiving their music in January, the singers met weekly to rehearse together and continued practicing independently to prepare for the event.

The Honor Choir performances were held on Saturday, Mar. 7 at the California Theatre in San Jose, where students rehearsed and performed under the direction of nationally recognized conductors alongside peers from across the western United States.

Mahalo to Alicia Scanlan, Joanna Habermann, Mia Porreca, John Roberts and Michael Lippert for guiding and preparing these talented students. We are proud of their dedication and honored that they represented Punahou and Hawaiʻi on the regional stage.
