Bill was probably one of the greatest all-around athletes to attend Punahou School during the period 1910 – 1920. Records indicate he was a four-year letterman (1911 – 14) in football, track and baseball, a remarkable achievement for a high school student. He was also a member of the swimming squad in his senior year. He was captain of the 1913 baseball and 1914 football teams and top scorer in the 1914 Interscholastic Track Championships. In baseball, in addition to being the regular pitcher, he played in the field, caught and was the team’s leading batter. He was proficient in every position. During the period 1919 – 1940, he served Punahou as a trainer (track, baseball and football); assistant track coach; and baseball coach (1919 – 1920). He was a mainstay as player, coach, manager and owner of the Wanderers Baseball Team of the Hawaii Senior Baseball League – perennial contenders for league championships – and served a term as president of the League. During the 30’s he was often considered “Mr. Baseball” of Honolulu.
