This April, students brought Dr. Seuss’ beloved characters to life and transported the audience in Dillingham Hall from the Jungle of Nool to Circus McGurkus. Presented by Punahou middle-school students, the fantastical musical extravaganza of “Seussical JR.” embodied a message of perseverance and loyalty.
While the cast was comprised of 36 students in grades 6 – 8, Academy students played a supporting role behind-the-scenes as mentors to the stage crew of eighth-graders, working alongside the costume department, and designing and executing their own concepts for the stage. The assistant to the director as well as assistant to the choreographer were also Academy students, making this production a true collaboration across many grade levels.
