It was a busy weekend for Punahou athletics as the boys varsity I water polo team, girls and boys cross country teams and varsity football team competed for championships.
Water Polo
The weekend kicked off with the boys Varsity I water polo team facing Kamehameha for the ILH Championship. Punahou jumped out to an early lead, but Kamehameha fought back to tie the game at the end of the third quarter 7 – 7. The Buff ’n Blue held on at the end for the 10 – 9 victory.
Football
In Aiea, the Buff ’n Blue faced the No. 6 team in the nation, Saint Louis, for the ILH Championship in Aloha Stadium. Punahou crawled back from a 14 – 0 deficit to tie the game 14 – 14 in the third quarter. However, the Crusader’s third touchdown of the day led to their victory. The loss ended Punahou’s season, while the Crusaders will advance to the HHSAA State Championship tournament.
Cross County
On Saturday, Nov. 2, the girls and boys cross country teams traveled to Maui where each team captured the HHSAA State Championship. This was the eighth consecutive championship for the girls team, and for the boys, this was their first State championship since 1996.
