Carnival Art Gallery Opens Jan. 31

by Rachel Breitweser ’03 and Cassidy Kawashima ’23

Hawai‘i’s largest art show, the Punahou Carnival Art Gallery is online this year. The online art gallery will open Monday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m., and run through Saturday, Feb. 5 at 9 p.m. at punahoucarnival.com. People on O‘ahu will be able to purchase items and arrange for contactless pickup at the Punahou campus on Monday, Feb. 21.

Named “My He(art) Will Go On” in honor of Carnival’s theme, Back in Time to ’99, the gallery features more than 3,000 works of art created by nearly 300 Hawai‘i artists, including jewelry, paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture, ceramics and glass. Proceeds from each piece of art are shared evenly between the contributing artist and the Carnival’s fundraising efforts for financial aid.

While the gallery may look a little different this year, the students and parents could not be more excited to share the gallery website showcasing the talented artists’ pieces with the community, said Kai Teranishi-Guay ’23, Art Gallery co-chair. “Hope to see you there!”

Peter Shepard Cole talks about the inspiration for his ocean painting in this video.

he created just for the Punahou Carnival Art Gallery.
