From his years at Punahou through his achievements in the Olympic Games, Chris Duplanty ’84 has always been a standout athlete. He played water polo for four years at Punahou, and was named a High School All-American for three years as well as Athlete of the Year. In swimming, he was a four-year letter winner, and took the State Championship in the 100-meter breaststroke.
Following Punahou, Chris attended the University of California at Irvine, where he was a three-time All-American and led his water polo team to the 1989 National Championship. He was also a member of the Varsity swimming team all four years. He then spent numerous years on the U.S. National Team and represented the United States in water polo at the 1988 (Silver Medal), 1992, and 1996 (Team Captain) Summer Olympics as a player and in 2000 as an assistant coach. He is currently the U.S. Olympic Committee Liaison from the Board of Directors to the Olympic Assembly.
