Hall of Fame: Cynthia K. Stehouwer (1982)

Cynthia Kuulei Stehouwer ’82 lettered in basketball, softball and volleyball for all four years of high school. Playing in ILH and State Championships for basketball and volleyball, her prowess on the courts commanded numerous awards, including ILH Player of the Year in 1981 and State All-Tournament Team Most Outstanding Player in 1979. She was Co-Athlete of the Year in 1982.

Cynthia attended the University of California, Berkeley where she became a four-year letter winner in basketball. In 1985, she was crowned MVP in the Golden Bear Classic Tournament. Her accomplishments off the court were no less outstanding. In 1985, she was named California Scholar Athlete by the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW), an award recognizing the graduating senior with the highest grade-point average among member schools. The AIAW also bestowed to her its prestigious All-California Award. She graduated in 1986 with a degree in business administration.

Cynthia has served as a line referee for women’s volleyball, taught sports at Punahou and Star of the Sea School, and instructed students at the University of Hawaii in surfing, windsurfing, canoe paddling and skin diving.
