Walter Macfarlane 62 was the first Punahou athlete to earn nine varsity letters: three each in football, basketball and track. He also earned numerous All-State honors in each. In 1962 he was named Athlete of the Year.
Following Punahou, Walter attended Washington State University where he played football and then returned to Punahou where he gave back to his alma mater for 36 years as a teacher and coach.
