Elle Woods took audiences on her journey from sorority girl to law student in Punahou’s Academy production of “Legally Blonde: The Musical,” based on the popular film of the same name. The show lit up Dillingham Hall’s stage from Nov. 1 – 9.
Full of upbeat songs and energetic dances, this award-winning musical celebrated self-discovery and staying true to one’s dreams as it followed Elle, a fashionable sorority girl, through Harvard Law.
The show featured a talented and diverse cast and crew of close to 70 Academy students. Mehana Stone ’25 and Julia Saines ’27 alternated in the lead role of Elle Woods throughout the show’s run.
“Theatre is a form of escapism, so I hope audiences were able to immerse themselves in a different world and temporarily forget about their worries,” said Director Michael Ng.
The production was a hit – so entertaining it almost seemed “illegal.”

Behind the scenes, students work on the choreography for “Bend and Snap” and “Whipped into Shape.”
