Now open at Bishop Museum, Aloha Bricks ’26: Stories of Hawaiʻi transforms the Castle Memorial Building into a colorful, brick-built celebration of the islands. Created in partnership with the Hawaii LEGO® Users Group (HILUG) and students from across the state, the exhibit features large-scale LEGO models, original artwork and hands-on activities that highlight Hawaiʻi’s people, places and stories.
Among the featured works is a LEGO rendering of a hala tree created by students from Punahou School. At Punahou, the hala tree is a longstanding symbol of the school’s traditions, resilience and deep-rooted connection to place. The project reflects those values, with each student contributing a small part to a larger whole.
Over several weeks, students in grades 5 – 8 contributed during recess and library periods, building sixteen individual tiles one section at a time. When assembled, the pieces formed a single, unified image of the hala tree, an example of collaboration in action.
Punahou’s contribution is part of a broader statewide effort that includes participation from Kamehameha Schools, Damien Memorial School and others. The exhibit runs through Oct. 11, 2026.
