Together again! The 68-member Punahou Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 as a single ensemble for the first time since February 2020. The concert will be live-streamed on YouTube and the link below.
The students will perform the following works: Vivaldi’s Concerto Grosso in D minor, Op. 3 No. 11; Grieg’s Holberg Suite Op. 40; Vaughan Williams Five Variants on ‘Dives and Lazarus’, featuring harpists from the Punahou Music School harp studio; and Gardel’s “Por una cabeza” (Tango from “Scent of a Woman”).
The three-minute finale of “Por una cabeza” is a tango that has been scored for strings. The piece will be performed without a conductor and with the musicians standing. Concertmistress Ellie Ochiai ’22 will lead the group.
