Thailand, Bhutan, France, Switzerland and Spain were on the itinerary for over 80 Academy students during a whirlwind summer of travel. Here’s a peek into some of the far-flung travel adventures and rich educational experiences offered through Punahou’s Wo International Center.
Academy Capstone Thailand
Seniors interested in health and medical professions embarked on the “Senior Capstone Social Studies Travel: Healthcare and Culture in Thailand.” During the 10-day trip, they engaged in clinical work in western Thailand, providing healthcare services to immigrants from neighboring Myanmar. Students learned about the principles of global health and gained experience in serving underserved populations in rural and remote villages.
Academy Capstone Bhutan
Seniors took part in service learning around Bhutanese environmental protection efforts, the history and integration of Buddhism into daily life, and the impact of evolving educational systems.
Switzerland Net Zero Symposium
Ten students from Punahou and other schools visited the four-day international symposium in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland, centered on sustainable practices, net-zero carbon emissions and emerging technologies. Students also engaged in workshops in Geneva with organizations including the United Nations.
Academy Language Immersion Spain
Students participated in a five-week study program in Salamanca, Spain, learning Spanish at the University of Salamanca and staying with host families.
Academy Language Immersion France
Academy students studied at the French Language School and lived with host families for three weeks in Antibes.
