PAANC Puts on Splendid Lū‘au in Northern California

Nearly 150 alumni gathered at the lū‘au event in Mill Valley. Many of the attendees were decked out in aloha wear.

The Punahou Alumni Association Northern California (PAANC) chapter held its annual PAANC Lū‘au in Mill Valley on Sunday, April 16 at the Mill Valley Recreation Center with nearly 150 alumni and friends making lei, listening to live Hawaiian music, and enjoying ‘ono lū‘au food and shave ice on a sunny day. PAANC chairs Mike Ratiani ’75 and Lynne Baer ’64 welcomed Chair of the Board of Trustees Connie Hee ’70 Lau – and Punahou Alumni Association President Chris Abbott ’99 joined the festivities and talked about the process by which the School embarked on revising its mission statement.

The Class of 1964 donned their 50th Reunion aloha wear which made a bold statement that they were serious about the lū‘au’s theme. While guests strung lei and shared heartwarming stories of their days on campus, Wynn Wong ’70 and his wife, Marian, handed out the surprise of the day, homemade malasadas – Punahou’s recipe! It was an enjoyable time had by all who attended and there was even talk about holding a lū‘au in the North and East Bay in the near future.
