Punahou School is pleased to announce Hugo Gutierrez as the new Boys Varsity soccer coach. With an accomplished soccer background, Coach Gutierrez is set to lead Punahou’s soccer program.
Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, Gutierrez played professionally in Mexico and earned a degree in business and Spanish language in 2004. He later transitioned to coaching, working in Chicago and Portland before making Hawai‘i his home.
In 2012, Gutierrez joined an FC Barcelona franchise in Brazil, gaining experience with Brazilian clubs. He returned to Hawai‘i, scouting talent for FC Barcelona and establishing Escola Hawaii, a franchise of Coritiba FC.
Gutierrez also coached Moanalua High School and has been a Spanish teacher at Punahou School. With his extensive background, he’s well-prepared for his role as the Boys Varsity soccer coach.
