Student-Organized Run Benefits Homeless

The Punahou girls’ cross country team invites you to participate in a good cause while getting some exercise at the Homeward Bound 5K Virtual Race on Thanksgiving. The annual fun run is a partnership between the team and the Institute for Human Services (IHS). All proceeds benefit guests served through IHS’s programs and services.

To align with safety precautions, the race is virtual, which means runners create their own routes, start at their preferred time, and run at their own pace. Visit https://ihshawaii.org/hb5k# to learn more about the event. The deadline to sign-up is the day before Thanksgiving. Register by Nov. 11 to receive a race shirt.

Punahou juniors Lauren Saunders ’22 and Malia Dickhens ’22 are heading up the effort this year, continuing a tradition started in 2008. “I love helping to organize this race because it is one step closer in alleviating the homelessness issue here in Hawai’i. More than ever, IHS needs our support during this time,” said Saunders. Learn more about the co-directors below.
