Alumni Lū‘au Centennial Brings Aloha to the Midwest

Chicago Alumni

Nearly 50 alumni and friends from across the Midwest gathered at the Goose Island Salt Shed Pub in Chicago for a special celebration marking the 100th anniversary of Punahou’s Alumni Lū‘au. It was the first official gathering of alumni in that area since 2015. Young alumnae Tai Masuda ’17 and Bailey Monick ’15, both graduate students in Chicago, suggested the idea of a gathering earlier this fall and then led planning efforts for the event.

The evening brought a feeling of aloha to Chicago’s vibrant riverfront, with graduates spanning generations reconnecting and enjoying the company of fellow Punahou alumni. Guests enjoyed a menu of classic Midwestern pūpū, including cheese curds, sliders and pretzel bites, alongside a full selection of Goose Island brews. For many, it was a long-awaited chance to reestablish ties with fellow Buff ’n Blue living far from campus and to welcome new faces who have recently made the region their home.
